About Snake

Snake turns a clear board into a moving maze of your own making. Guide the snake toward food to extend its body, then plan a route that avoids running into it. This is Patrick Gillespie’s JavaScript Snake, with selectable visual themes and game modes. It is a standalone open-source version, not Google Snake. A longer snake creates more obstacles, so surviving depends on the space you leave for your next turn as much as the food you collect.

Getting started

  1. Choose a theme and mode, then use the game’s start control.
  2. Use the arrow keys or WASD to change direction. Touch devices show directional buttons.
  3. Collect food while avoiding collisions. Watch how the selected mode handles the edges.

Tips for a better run

  • Keep a clear route through the largest empty part of the board.
  • Avoid chasing food into a narrow pocket unless you can see an exit.
  • As your body grows, make wider loops rather than frequent sharp turns.

In Easy mode, collecting one food item changed the displayed length from 1 to 6. We then turned left, paused, resumed and made another turn.

Common questions

Is this Google Snake?

No. This is Patrick Gillespie’s open-source JavaScript Snake, with its own themes and modes.

Can I change the appearance?

Yes. Use the Theme selector inside the game. Theme changes affect the visual presentation.

Will it work on my school network?

Access depends on your network’s rules. “Unblocked” is a common search term for browser games, not a guarantee that a school or workplace will allow this page.
