About Breakout
Breakout is a paddle-and-ball arcade game. Move the paddle beneath the falling ball to bounce it back toward the bricks. Clear the layout while protecting the space below your paddle. This open-source canvas version by Jake Gordon includes multiple brick layouts, keyboard controls, touch input, and an optional sound setting. The angle of each bounce changes your next shot, so positioning the paddle matters more than simply following the ball.
Getting started
- Press Space to begin, or use the touch start area on a touch device.
- Move left and right to return the ball toward the bricks.
- Keep returning the ball and clear the layout. The level controls let you browse available layouts.
Tips for a better run
- Watch where the ball will reach paddle height, rather than chasing its current position.
- Try different paddle contact points to send the ball toward remaining bricks.
- When the ball gets behind a row of bricks, focus on the next return instead of moving unnecessarily.
